I'm really terrible when it comes to keeping up with writing about events attended. This past September's New York Fashion Week was pretty awesome and I had the opportunity to attend many great shows and presentations. Here's a brief recap of a few shows I haven't posted previously.

BUM-CAKE x By Breanne

The lovely Breanne Butler wearing our canary lace housecoat. 

We met during fashion week and ever since I tried some of her mini meringue drops that she made for Heart & Noble's SS15 collection, I've been dying to try more of her desserts. Even better, I had the opportunity to collaborate with her on a special project and voila... this clip from "Good Day Chicago" was born! Breanne wore one of our vintage housecoats and baked a cake inspired by us on the Fox News feature "Fashion Inpsired Cakes". The show also features cakes she created based on designs by Vaunt & Sol and Pyer Moss. 

Breanne is a very talented New York City based pastry chef who bakes cakes inspired by fashion. She usually takes a specific design from a collection and uses it to be the focus for the cake she ends up creating. She's super talented and her cakes are absolutely delicious. I was also able to try some of her curry cake, which was another amazing dessert.

Cool Brand Alert: Slow Factory

"Dune Field On Mars" 

A couple of weeks ago, I had the opportunity to meet with Celine Semaan, the mastermind behind the coolest new brand Slow Factory. It was a rainy morning and we met for tea and scones at Variety Cafe in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I truly left feeling re-inspired and fed with the satisfaction of knowing that there really are good people left in the world especially here in New York.

What is it that you need to know about Slow Factory? They produce handcrafted "sustainable essentials", aka beautifully awesome scarves that are made of silk and modal (a processed bio-based textile made from the cellulose of beech trees) in Italy. Modal is actually better than cotton in that it's resistant to shrinkage, it's feels softer to touch, and it fades way slower. The designs on the scarves are actually photos of different images in the galaxy as well as the view from outer space of different cities. These lovely scarves are also fair trade and are made with eco-friendly dyes as well. Sounds pretty awesome, right? Well, it actually gets even better...

Two weeks ago, they teamed up with ANERA to launch the DIGNITY Fund, an effort to infuse social responsibility to the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. This fund supports humanitarian aid to the refugees throughout the region. This special project has arrived in such a timely manner given all of the social and political debates that are now circling the media (in regards that area of the world). The DIGNITY Fund was also inspired by Celine's own experience of having to flee her home in Lebanon in the 1980s due to its civil war. It's very admirable when a brand has true humanitarian efforts in addition to creating a high quality product because it shows that their vision goes beyond them and that the end result is to make this world a better place. This is exactly why Slow Factory is one of the coolest brands out at this time—there's a truly great product linked with an even greater cause.

In the Street

I spent an afternoon with my homie, Chérmelle of The Coffeetographer (she also took these photos of me). It was during fashion week and it was pouring rain. We stopped at a place for coffee (of course) while we chatted about fashion, photography, style, life in New York City, some of our goals and even some projects in the works. Then, we did what we're both pretty good at—thrifting! We stopped at No Relation Vintage in the LES. She found a few items and I didn't, but I'll be back there for some furs. We came to a conclusion that there is no time like now to go out and take over the world (or at least try), share our stories, meet new faces, be fabulous, be passionate, hold onto the grit, and just live. We're creatives, we're artists, and we're "surviving artists."
