Bring on the drama

So as stated on IG, my friend Kristina (also a jewelry designer) came over my house one rainy day and decided to style & shoot me. She's the bomb.com--a hidden talent was uncovered (photography skills). She took the photos below on her iphone5s--if that's not badass, I don't know what is.

And there you have it, my most dramatic shots ever.

Not so Grey Gardens...

While in LA, I stayed at a cute little studio guest house in the Silverlake/Echo Park neighborhood. Can I tell you how I absolutely fell in love with the garden at this place?! It was so darling. There was even a small tomato and herb garden within the garden, but I was specifically obsessed with the Sea Lavender plants (Limonium)—they feel like tissue paper and are sooooo beautiful. In conclusion, this is the first place I’d consider moving to outside of NY.

Braided

On Halloween, I decided to get box braids for the first time... I had no idea what to expect or how my hair would react to it. I was hesitant for months and would set up appointments and then cancel because I'd chicken out--needless to say, it was a lengthy process beforehand and during me getting them done. It took 17 hours with maybe less than an hour break all together. My entire Halloween was spent getting my hair done. Now, I can say I've had them and I probably won't get them again any time in the near future. I really loved having them in and not having to worry about doing my hair, but the weight took a lot for me to get used to and when I took them out, my hair was pretty tangled. However, because I kept them super moisturized during the entire 5 weeks of wearing them, my hair was in decent shape after I took them out (minus the tangles). Check out some of the styles below (all of 3 styles, haha) and see what products I faithfully used everyday to keep them fresh and healthy. I was so inspired by all these natural and protective hair style blogs and IG pages and I just had to try them out. I do think everyone should try braids at least once.

Yup--I used Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla products on them everyday. I would spray them with the leave-in conditioner and hair sheen and then wrap them with a scarf at night before going to bed. In the morning, I'd use their edge control smoother when necessary and once a week, I'd put their pure hair oil on the root of the braids. This stuff was really a blessing for keeping my hair in great shape while I had the braids in.

Colour

To see the rest of the look book, visit bum-cake.com/colour

Colour is my first curated collection where I'm the model. I really wanted to show people who the "bum-cake vintage girl" truly is--she knows what she likes, has a true sense of style and appreciation for fashion, and isn't afraid to try new things...she's me...in a nutshell. The whimsical yet demure garments in this curated collection truly define the "bum-cake vintage girl." I'm constantly inspired by pop culture from previous decades, especially bohemian culture from the 60s-70s. The garments in this collection range from the 1950s-1990s and will take you from day-to-night, which is perfect for any fashionista on the go!

Wild Thang

Last week, I found a really great pair of pants from Harold + Maude Vintage (down the street from where I live in Bedstuy) and was searching for something to pair them with. I remembered I purchased a leopard print pant set a couple months back and that blouse literally matches everything, so the below look happened...

Necklace by Gorjana (got it from my rocksbox subscription...details at the bottom)

I was feeling really tired last Friday, but I've been tryna blog more, so this was the result, haha.

Here's what I'm talking about--you can pair leopard with anything... Especially floral prints!

And now from my view... Ring by Robyn Rhodes (details below)

My Version of a Sweater Dress

I've seen a lot of "sweater dresses" in stores lately and in magazines and I'm not saying they aren't great, but I have a simpler version I like to wear and it's basically a men's sweater worn as a dress and paired with tights or knee high socks. It can be worn as an oversized top or as a dress, it can be inexpensive, and most importantly, it's straight to the point.

Seriously, consider wearing your dude's sweater as a dress.

It also makes me feel tougher. Not sure why, but it just does, hehe.

Oh, the coat and the sweater are for sale on Bum-Cake.com or Etsy

The coat is a grape colored tweed and the sweater is a mix of violet and navy with a honeycomb print.

Postin' up.

Knee highs are Steve Madden
Boots & earrings are vintage
