Braided

On Halloween, I decided to get box braids for the first time... I had no idea what to expect or how my hair would react to it. I was hesitant for months and would set up appointments and then cancel because I'd chicken out--needless to say, it was a lengthy process beforehand and during me getting them done. It took 17 hours with maybe less than an hour break all together. My entire Halloween was spent getting my hair done. Now, I can say I've had them and I probably won't get them again any time in the near future. I really loved having them in and not having to worry about doing my hair, but the weight took a lot for me to get used to and when I took them out, my hair was pretty tangled. However, because I kept them super moisturized during the entire 5 weeks of wearing them, my hair was in decent shape after I took them out (minus the tangles). Check out some of the styles below (all of 3 styles, haha) and see what products I faithfully used everyday to keep them fresh and healthy. I was so inspired by all these natural and protective hair style blogs and IG pages and I just had to try them out. I do think everyone should try braids at least once.

Yup--I used Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla products on them everyday. I would spray them with the leave-in conditioner and hair sheen and then wrap them with a scarf at night before going to bed. In the morning, I'd use their edge control smoother when necessary and once a week, I'd put their pure hair oil on the root of the braids. This stuff was really a blessing for keeping my hair in great shape while I had the braids in.

Colour

To see the rest of the look book, visit bum-cake.com/colour

Colour is my first curated collection where I'm the model. I really wanted to show people who the "bum-cake vintage girl" truly is--she knows what she likes, has a true sense of style and appreciation for fashion, and isn't afraid to try new things...she's me...in a nutshell. The whimsical yet demure garments in this curated collection truly define the "bum-cake vintage girl." I'm constantly inspired by pop culture from previous decades, especially bohemian culture from the 60s-70s. The garments in this collection range from the 1950s-1990s and will take you from day-to-night, which is perfect for any fashionista on the go!

Vaunt & Sol SS15

Back in October, I had the wonderful pleasure of attending Vaunt & Sol's S/S 2015 presentation in the meatpacking district. I absolutely loved what I saw. From the exotic flowers that were placed around the room to the yummy cocktails and mini meringues served, it was the perfect accent to Najva Sol & Nicole Vaunt's femme yet strikingly bold and powerful collection. Take a look...

Check out the gold & denim pieces to the right--the harem pants were amazing and this photo doesn't do it justice. Not sure what the long ruby flowers were called, but I was obsessed with these arrangements placed throughout the room.

I love the back to this dress from the collection. It's as if someone painted a portrait on a dress. Fine art meets fine fashion.

Those are the perfect harem pants mentioned previously. I also really like that statement hoodie--very soft denim fabric, so it's very wearable.

 I really liked their outfits.

I'm also obsessed with these blouses and the dress. Very Lower East Side chic, but in an honest way.

This was my favorite outfit--there's such an understated elegance to it that I appreciate. I would add this to my staple wardrobe. Also, those sleeves aren't rolled, they're designed to give that illusion, which is pretty awesome.

The lovely cake and super delicious meringues made by Breanne Butler (ByBreanne)

Overall, the collection was perfect for the upcoming season and for this city, it's so demure yet badass at the same time, which was unexpectedly intriguing. I also loved the intimate presentation of it--it was nice to escape from the rest of the world for a bit.

Urban Jungle Girl

Vintage from head-to-shins. Many people assume that vintage can't look classy and fashion-forward, but that's a lie. It's all about finding the right pieces and pulling them together. This outfit is just a blouse worn over a slip and paired with earrings, a necklace, and heels.

Dear Coachella...

Dear Coachella

As you all know, Coachella has begun and sadly, I don't think we will be attendance, BUT... this is our tribute outfit! Bum-Cake's Linen Bow Crop Top, some cute denim cut offs, a fringed bag to carry your life in, a little heart ring, some friendship bracelets, striped glasses, and some awesome striped wedges—not usually big on bold chunky shoes, but it's Coachella—if anywhere, this is where you'd wear something like these... it's kind of a MUST.

Thoughts?
